One of H.O.P.E.’s Key Projects – AIMS School, Khanewal
Aims School is located in Basti Hansla, Gagra Qalandr Jahaniah, a small rural suburb situated on the vulnerable flood bank of Chanab river in Tahsil Kabirwala of district Khanewal, Punjab province . The average literacy rate in the area is only about 2% for males and, unfortunately, as low as 0% for female population. The local population is composed of approximately 300 households.
Usually children act as helping hands for their parents in the fields, as there are no opportunities for any other healthy activity in daytime for them. Fortunately, due to the rising awareness about the significance of education, the local community and the elders realized the prompt and crucial need to educate their children so that they could become a part of a growing and intellectual society. Hence, in view of the need and consistent requests from the community members, the AIMs School project was started few years ago on self-sustaining basis as a small school including grades from nursery to 8th.
Currently, the school runs on an old, small rental building without any essential or proper infrastructure for functioning. With no public or private school within the radius of 5 KMs,, there is a dire need to build, and run a fully functioning school to fulfil the immediate academic needs of the local children. To accommodate more students in a manageable way, the school needs a major upgrade that will include construction of building infrastructure, purchase of office and classroom furniture, enrolment of staff and teachers for administration and academic purposes, in addition to covering the essential academic expenses of the students.
While a building is currently being constructed on land donated by a landlord, there is an immediate need to bear academic and other expenses of the students. In line with its vision and mission, H.O.P.E. has accepted the challenge and responsibility to tackle this huge and crucial project and will cover all the educational expenses of at least 160 students (including the costs of uniform, books, bags etc.,) in addition to providing expenses for furniture, stationary and other administrative and management expenses.
